    Frequently Asked Questions

Pastels are pure pigment, the same intense color found in oil or watercolor paint—just in stick form. Because they’re applied directly to the surface without mixing with a liquid medium, the colors stay vibrant and luminous, often with a freshness that other mediums can’t match.

Pastel paintings need to be framed under glass to protect the surface. I recommend using UV-protective museum glass with a mat or spacer to keep the artwork from touching the glass. A good frame not only protects but also enhances the piece. Consult a professional framer with experience framing pastels for the best results. Or reach out if you have more questions.

Yes, I occasionally take on commissions. If you have a special place or memory you’d like captured in pastel, send me a note. We can talk about your vision, size, and timeframe to see if it’s a good fit.

Yes, I am available to conduct workshops or demos for your art group or society. Please reach out for pricing and availability details.

Not when they’re cared for properly. I use professional-grade, lightfast pastels on archival surfaces, so the colors are made to last. Many pastel paintings hundreds of years old still look as bold as the day they were created. But any painting should be protected from longterm direct sunlight exposure.

Artwork prices can vary based on size, availability, shipping and framing considerations, and whether a piece is already with a gallery. I also want the chance to connect personally with collectors and answer questions about the work. If you’re interested in a painting, just reach out—I’m happy to share details.

Absolutely. I teach workshops and also share painting tips and lessons on my YouTube channel, The Pastel Workshop. If your organization is interested in hosting a workshop, or if you’d like to learn more, please get in touch.
