My name is Clint Howard. I’m a professional pastel painter. I’ve won some awards, like first place in the Pastel 100, and second place in the annual Dakota Pastels competition, among others.
You may have seen my YouTube videos on the Pastel Workshop channel, or run across my Pastel Workshop Facebook group.
Now I’m a full-time artist. But I live in rural Arkansas.
It’s not exactly an artistic culture. Sure, there are a few artists around, but not many, and not many I connect with.
That made it hard when I became more serious about this hobby that I loved so much. It can get lonely when you don’t have someone else to share this obsession with. And I often felt frustrated because I didn’t have anyone to turn to when I had questions and didn’t know how to get better.
It wasn’t easy.
And that’s why I started the Pastel Workshop.
Art isn’t easy. But it’s a little bit easier when you’re not trying to figure it out alone.
Connection is everything. Community makes a difference. Motivation. Feedback. Tips and ideas. Inspiration. They can often only be found in community with other artists who care about this dusty medium as much as you.
And what I found, as a bonus, was relief. Life is hard. My family has been through our share of struggles. But making and creating makes it a little easier, or at least easier to handle. And creating in community even more so.
