The Last Word captures that brief transition when daylight is nearly gone, but the sky has not quite surrendered it. A narrow opening near the horizon burns with orange and gold, surrounded by broad passages of lavender, blue, and muted violet. Below, the landscape settles into shadow, becoming quieter and less distinct as attention moves upward into the expansive evening sky.

Loose, layered marks give the clouds a sense of movement without defining every edge or form. Warm notes scattered throughout the cooler atmosphere connect the fading light to the larger sky, while the darkened land provides a simple, grounded counterpoint. It is a painting about a fleeting moment, when most of the day has disappeared and one small piece of light remains.
